“Nifty Finishes Therapy, Joins a Gym”
Last week Nifty was lying on the couch. This week it bought gym shoes, skipped leg day on Tuesday, and still walked out about 2% stronger, closing Friday at 23,053.10. Crude oil sat at $110-plus all week, eating everyone’s protein.
Monday: The Comeback Kid
Nifty opened in a sulk and slid to 22,387. Then it remembered it had paid for a gym membership. It closed about 150 points higher, with banks bouncing off a four-month low.
Tuesday: The Plank
Nifty moved 3.45 points all day. That is not a trading session. That is a plank. Smallcaps quietly sprinted 2.7% while the big guys held position and waited for the Fed.
Wednesday: IT Pulls a Hamstring
American AI companies posted earnings, and Indian IT fainted: Nifty IT fell more than 2%. Jio Platforms listed and became a ₹13 lakh crore celebrity by lunch. Piramal Pharma jumped 17%. Nifty slipped below 22,700 anyway.
Thursday: Protein Shake Day
The Fed held rates. West Asia talks cooled Brent to about $110. Whispers of a long-term capital gains tax cut did the rest. Nifty rose 1%, the Sensex 900 points, and FIIs actually showed up to the gym.
Friday: Mirror Selfie
Nifty reclaimed 23,000 and posed for photos. IT, injured on Wednesday, led the rally like nothing happened. Pharma flexed: up more than 7% for the week. Suzlon cut its guidance and skipped the photo.
Cast of Characters
Crude Oil
The gym bully. Hung around between $110 and $116 all week and flexed every time the Houthis made headlines.
IT Stocks
Mood swings. Fell 2% on Wednesday over someone else’s earnings in California, then led Friday’s rally as if nothing happened.
Pharma
The overachiever. Up more than 7% in a week while everyone else was still counting reps.
Smallcaps
Up more than 4% for the week. Nobody noticed, which is exactly how smallcaps like it.
The Fed
Did absolutely nothing. Markets loved it.
What To Watch
Bullish Scenario
- Crude finally goes on a diet below $110.
- The capital gains tax whisper turns into an actual announcement.
- FIIs keep buying instead of just window-shopping.
Bearish Scenario
- The Houthis send Brent back above $116.
- The US 10-year yield, already near 5%, knocks on the door.
- IT reads another American earnings call and faints again.
This week Nifty skipped therapy, hit the gym and posted one mirror selfie at 23,000 — and is already telling everyone it “always trusted the process.”
