Nifty Before the Long Weekend (week ending 1 Oct 2026)

This week, Nifty worked exactly like an employee before a long weekend: logged in every day, attended all meetings, and avoided making any major decisions.

“Mentally on Holiday Since Wednesday”

As the shortened week headed toward the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, Nifty behaved exactly like an employee during the last working week before a long weekend.

Physically present.

Mentally unavailable.

Monday: New Week, New Dreams

Nifty arrived at the office carrying a notebook labelled:

“This Week I’ll Hit New Highs.”

By noon it had opened Excel, stared at the screen for 20 minutes, attended three unnecessary meetings and achieved nothing.

A respectable start with absolutely no commitment.

Tuesday: Productivity Theatre

The index spent the day pretending to work.

A little green.

A little red.

A little sideways.

If charts could speak, Tuesday’s chart would say:

“I’m currently typing…”

and then never send the message.

Wednesday: Holiday Fever Begins

By Wednesday afternoon, market participation dropped faster than office attendance before a festival weekend.

Traders were checking:

  • Flight tickets
  • Family WhatsApp groups
  • Cricket schedules

Nobody was checking earnings models.

Nifty noticed and decided:

“If nobody cares, neither do I.”

Thursday: Officially Unofficial Holiday

Technically, markets were open.

Practically, everybody’s brain had already reached the holiday destination.

Volumes looked lighter.

Conviction looked weaker.

Even breakout attempts sounded unconvincing.

Resistance levels looked at Nifty and asked:

“Are you serious?”

Nifty replied:

“Not really.”

Characters of the Week

Bank Nifty

The responsible elder sibling. Keeps the family together. Pays the bills. Still gets blamed for everything.

IT Sector

Opened every morning hoping the US would save it. Closed every evening wondering why life is so difficult.

Crude Oil

The toxic ex. Every time markets forget about it, it sends another message.

Global Cues

The teacher who assigns homework during holidays. Nobody likes them. Everyone has to listen.

What Did Nifty Really Achieve?

After four sessions, Nifty’s report card looked something like:

  • Lots of movement ✅
  • Lots of opinions ✅
  • Lots of TV debates ✅
  • Clear direction ❌

The index spent the week collecting candles the way schoolchildren collect stickers.

Interesting collection.

No larger purpose.

What To Watch Next Week

1. Post-Holiday Reality Check

The market will return from the long weekend and suddenly remember that earnings, inflation, yields and global markets still exist. This moment is usually called: “The Monday Shock.”

2. Watch the Banks

If Bank Nifty leads, the broader market may find confidence. If banks get sleepy, Nifty may join them.

3. FIIs vs DIIs: Season 847

FIIs:

“We’re selling.”

DIIs:

“We’re buying.”

FIIs:

“We’re selling more.”

DIIs:

“Fine. We’re buying more.”

The greatest sitcom in Indian finance continues.
